In June 2023, I took a solo road trip called the Lake Superior Circle Tour. Over 24 days and 1,300+ miles through Minnesota, Wisconsin, Michigan Upper Peninsula and Ontario, CAN I experienced the world’s largest body of freshwater (by surface area) from all sides. Starting and ending in Duluth, MN I traveled counterclockwise into Wisconsin, Michigan, Ontario and back down the Minnesota North Shore, making 13 stops along the way. To fully immerse with Superior (Gitchigami) had been a dream of mine for years, such a precious place — both a wonder and a resource.
This journey required me to navigate the shoreline in new ways, moving my body carefully yet confidently, to document the relationship between the rocks and the water. Photography, videography, journaling and watercolors were my means of recording everything I experienced. This documentation directly informed my solo exhibition, Imminent Change | Rising Potential at Kolman & Reeb Gallery. Thanks to support from the Kolman & Reeb Grant Project Space Grant.
