In 2018, I experienced a major artistic shift when I lived alone in the woods during a two-week artist residency. On my daily walks I became captivated by the fallen, decaying birch trees. These hollow vestiges invited me to pause and notice the cycles of growth and decay within my own body.
Returning to my studio with a collection of bark skins, I created large-scale drawings using charcoal on paper. Connecting my fleshy and skeletal body with the forms and scars of the bark, I created my solo exhibition Betula.
