Chicago River No. 1 , No. 2 and No. 3

Chicago River No. 1 , No. 2 and No. 3 | acrylic, collected Chicago River water and sediment on canvas | 73” x 218”

This site-specific commission was created with collected samples from the Chicago River and Lake Michigan — the riverwalk, the public beach at Ohio Street, and the Park 571 boat launch in Bridgeport. By integrating these collected waters and sediments into the paintings, I translated the beauty from these places through blended colors and realized our relationship with that water on the canvas. This triptych offers an opportunity to reflect on the natural ecosystems that intersect with the Chicago River which flows outside this building, as well as the native garden designed on the terrace of this 4th floor tenant lounge.
